New Age R&B Singer/Songwriter Inks Exclusive Distribution Deal with Altavoz Distribution

 Former Danity Kane and Diddy’s Dirty Money singer/songwriter, Dawn Richard, announced today that she inked a deal with Altavoz Distribution. Home to a diverse family of artists and special entertainment projects – this year, Altavoz manufactured and distributed a charity album featuring renowned artists such as Alanis Morissette, Arrested Development and Maroon 5 – Dawn joins the roster to release Goldenheart, the first of her three part musical trilogy.  As part of the deal, Altavoz Distribution will aid in the physical distribution of the record slated to drop January 15, 2013.

Where have all the “independent women” gone? Look no further than singer-songwriter Dawn Richard, whom many may recall as a member of the short-lived ’00s pop group Danity Kane, and one-third of the even shorter-lived Diddy-Dirty Money.

But Richard’s no second fiddle—releasing a mixtape and EP on her own, without any major label assistance, to rave reviews and an inspired fanbase—yet it’s her upcoming debut solo effort, Goldenheart, that’s set to get the mainstream talking once it’s released next month. Blending alternative listens like Björk and Imogen Heap with 80s pop (à la Phil Collins and Prince), and putting it all atop tribal drums, Richard has crafted a atmospheric aesthetic unto her own that’s already garnered the attention of her peers, mentors, and critics...

She emerged first as a reality TV contestant, on MTV’s P Diddy-helmed Making The Band series – and was catapulted from being one of New Orleans’ many homeless victims of Hurricane Katrina straight into the girl group Danity Kane. (In a telling sign that Richard would be end up much more than an anonymous girl group member, they were named by her, after a fictional anime character of her own creation.)

Two albums later – including 2008′s hugely underrated Welcome To The Dollhouse, with its hyper-kinetic harmonies and sleek production courtesy of Danja – Danity Kane, perhaps inevitably, disbanded.
