I am a young woman who has faced obstacles I never thought I would. First off I want to let Dawn know that she inspires me in a way I never thought was possible: she dared me and all the other hearts to dream, and never give up in what you believe in. I am a golden heart because I am willing to change myself in order to change others around me. At the young age of 5 me and my two younger brothers were taken from our mother. Due to her heavy addiction with drugs, we were placed in DCFS custody and i was separated from my brothers. I cant even count on my fingers how many homes I had been to between the ages of 5-9; but I made it out alive. One specific foster home that I will never forget put me through things I wouldnt even wish on my enemy. I was sexual assulted around 7 or 8, beaten up everyday in the house I lived in, and even cut on my arm and leg with a kitchen butcher knife. Unfortunately no one came to my rescue while i resided there. It wasnt until I turned 8, that I met my biological father and he won custody of me. Although I was not a ward of the state anymore, I continued to have a low self esteem. With this low self esteem, and depression I began self mutilating and developed bulimia my junior year of highschool. My childhood was bad but it has made me a stronger person today. DAWN YOUR MUSIC GIVES ME HOPE. I am now in college, working, and living to the best of my ability to pursue a career. You have been a vessel in my body that keeps me going, with your passion for music, you keep me going. I believe in myself Dawn just because you believe in yourself, and I am 100% behind you. #GOLDENHEARTFORLIFE ~candice
